S4A1202 – Internal Analysis: Template for Analyzing Your Value Chain

File includes 6 templates. Analyzing the Value Chain with a Strategic perspective can be daunting.  These forms try to help find what makes you unique and what can be improved upon to create unique value. The first form…starts from the beginning, it helps you find the first three levels of you value chain starting with the top 2 levels – primary and support activities.  At the lower level it encourages you to think about the activities being performed…yes – this is the important part. Asking questions about activities can be hard and raise some eyebrows.  The suggestion here is not to rattle everyone but only the Strategy Team members to evaluate – in a simple way that raises the important issues – all the activities being performed.  That’s what the second dorm is for. Let’s go one step further.  A lot of your activities are customer-facing so let’s ask a small but representative sample about them.  The third form has a template for that. The 4th form is a suggested simple questionnaire to your suppliers so they can evaluate your supplier-facing activities. The 5th form has a SWOT form where you’re encouraged to summarize the findings of the process above; the Strategy4Action framework peruses 23+ areas, including your Value Chain, to find new opportunities (as well as threats, strengths, and weaknesses).   There is also a 6th bonus form.  Often, going through an analysis like this you might be able to try an ABC methodology for your Cost Accounting.  This form facilitates starting that.
